Claire vs. Alliance & Leicester: 1-0 after extra time

I won against my bank on penalties… After asking for the unlawful penalty charges to be returned, and then being refused, and then filing court papers, and A&L stating they would file a defense, I have today scored a cheque from them for £1023.64 exactly. I now need to cash the cheque, inform the courts that the matter has been settled, and visit my bank to see if they want to close my account (their letter implied that they did) and point out that closing my account on the basis of a complaint is also illegal.

So, celebrations are in order. As Paul points out,  Ghostbusters is on at the Arts Centre cinema at 8pm. We should go and see that, and thereafter go drinking/return to the cottage for champagne. Hurrah!

PS: don’t ask me why all the football puns. Maybe it’s because I don’t know enough about rugby.

Cleverer before?

Hmm. I’ve read back through a few entries of my blog, and I can hardly believe that I could write so well. I don’t think I could do that anymore. I don’t think I have anything more to say. I think I’ve lost intelligence along the way somewhere. Maybe I just don’t feel confident enough to hold an opinion anymore, after all, anything’s arguable, isn’t it?

Anyway, I got myself a Facebook account. It’s the first social networking site I’ve ever participated in, and I like it. I was surprised by this, since normally I feel that anything a group site can do I can do better on my own webpage. Facebook allows you to identify groups you are part of and find other people in those groups, it’s pretty laid back, but you can have a pseudo live conversation or you can just browse 100’s of people’s profiles. I wouldn’t use it to blog, but it’s great for keeping up-to-date with my friends’ lives effortlessly. Better than Friends Reunited, better than MySpace, better than (dare I say it) Abnib, for a status report, anyway. Loads of people I know are already on it, enough that I don’t feel the need to petition you all to join. But hey, I might as well anyway. Join Facebook! There, I’m done.

Open Minded? (Meme)

We were talking about open-mindedness last night, and I think it’s interesting that liberal and open-minded often get lumped together. You can be the most conservative god-fearing anti-gay anti-abortionist, and still be open-minded if you understand that your beliefs and stances may change, and you are willing to inspect your own reasoning. As I see it, liberal is a particular direction of belief, whereas open minded is about willingness to change or justify your own beliefs, and accept the beliefs of others. The following test asks questions on both sides of the coin, which I thought was quite clever.

You Are 92% Open Minded

You are so open minded that your brain may have fallen out!
Well, not really. But you may be confused on where you stand. You don’t have a judgemental bone in your body, and you’re very accepting. You enjoy the best of every life philosophy, even if you sometimes contradict yourself.
The ones I couldn’t tick were: “You think there may be something to astrology, tarot, and fortune telling. ” and “You think that it’s possible that people have had contact with aliens.”
Of course, I could be wrong. ;)
